Where Self-Care Meets Skincare

In the world of self-care, people have an abundance of options before them as resources for slowing down and taking time for themselves. Ironically, one of the largest areas that people tend to not have time for is a satisfying skincare routine.

Not only is your skin your body's largest organ, but it is also the first thing people see and is a pretty accurate tell of your inner health as well.

On your next self-care night, try making a natural face mask as an activity. It's something fun to whip up in the kitchen and a great way to take care of your skin simultaneously.

Coconut oil seems to have become the beauty industry's holy grail product in recent years. Its high concentration of lauric acid may be linked to some potential benefits for the skin, including reducing inflammation, keeping skin moisturized, and healing wounds.

Coconut oil also possesses antimicrobial properties that can help treat acne and protect the skin from harmful bacteria and fungi. It's also universally beneficial for skin, hair, nails, and even inner health issues like heart health, metabolism deficiencies, and more! Its mixable consistency makes for a great carrier for other ingredients, too, making it widely usable. Coconut oil smells great, is widely available and affordable, and can be used on all skin types.

Turmeric essential oil also contains antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties. Adding it to a face mask may help treat inflammatory skin conditions, such as acne, wounds, or atopic dermatitis.

Here is a face mask recipe using coconut oil and turmeric for your next self-care night!

Coconut-Turmeric Face Mask

What you'll need:

● 1 tbsp. Coconut oil

● 3-4 drops Pure® Turmeric Essential Oil

This dynamic duo of ingredients works together to hydrate skin while reducing the look of large pores. Soften the coconut oil in the microwave until it is milky, and this will be the mask's main hydrator for your skin. (If you have oily skin and shy away from hydrating properties, fear not! Coconut oil is fantastic for oily skin).

Add 3-4 drops of Pure® Turmeric Essential Oil mix it up until you have a bright yellow paste. Apply it to your face and leave it on for 10 minutes. You may feel a tingly sensation; this is normal. Wash it off, and voila!

Coconut-Lemon Mask

Lemon essential oil benefits your skin by reducing acne, nourishing damaged skin and hydrating the skin. Lemon essential oil antioxidants reduce cell and tissue damage in the skin that’s caused by free radicals.

Now, this mask may drastically improve your flaky skin woes for all our dry skin sufferers out there. The coconut oil will hydrate your skin while lemon essential oil gently sloughs away the dead skin sitting on top of your pores.

What you will need:

  • 1 tbsp. Coconut oil

  • 3-4 drops Pure® Lemon Essential Oil

Soften an ounce of coconut oil and add the Pure® lemon essential oil. Mix it well, mashing the oil until it forms a smooth paste. Evenly apply the paste to your skin and leave it on for 10 minutes. Gently wash your face to slough away the dead skin. Rinse off, and you are done!

Green Tea Face Mask

Another holy grail product of the natural beauty industry is green tea. Used for centuries by the skincare goddesses themselves in Asian countries, green tea's powerful antioxidants fight bacteria, calm redness, and even treat mild acne forms.

What you will need:

● A brewed cup of green tea

● 1 tbsp. Baking soda

● 1 tbsp. Honey

Brew a cup of green tea as usual. Let the tea bag sit in hot water for about an hour before removing it from the water and ensuring that the bag is cool. Then, cut open the tea bag and take out the watered-down tea leaves.

In a bowl, mix the tea leaves, baking soda, and honey until it forms a paste. You may need to add some water if it is too thick of a consistency.

Put the mask on, leave it on for 15 minutes before exfoliating for a little bit and rinsing it off!

In addition to using a mask, a full skincare regimen includes cleansing, toning, treating, and moisturizing. Each step in your regimen should consider your skin type and be free of toxins and harmful chemicals.
